Indian authorities have detained a United Arab Emirates airforce plane that landed in Kolkata on its way to China after discovering arms and explosives on board, airport officials said Monday. The military transport plane was given permission to land in Kolkata on Sunday to refuel on its way to Hanyang, part of the city of Wuhan in China's Hubei province, from Abu Dhabi, but did not declare its cargo.
"We were shocked to discover arms and explosives in the plane during a routine check," Jayanti Ghosh, from the Industrial Security Force command which is in charge of security at the airport, told AFP. "The pilot and other crew of the aircraft did not declare to the authorities during clearance that it was carrying arms and explosives." Ghosh said the pilot and eight crew members were being interrogated about the arms.
