Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) has spent an amount of Rs 1709.946 million on system augmentation to provide smooth supply of electricity to consumers. According to official sources, the amount was spent under system augmentation programme from July 2008 to April 2009 to install and augment transformers. They said the company also upgraded 377.115 and 1229.707km HT and LT lines respectively to reinforce the power supply system and improve the voltage at consumers' end.
They added the distribution power supply network of corporate entities of Pepco was experiencing local constraints because of undisclosed load by the consumers. They said electrical appliances and gadgets were added in the system due to which the transformers, HT/LT lines and mains became overloaded, which contributed additional losses in the system. Pepco was fully conscious of the bottlenecks of power distribution companies (DISCOs), and was striving to tide over them, they added.
They said DISCOs were also working on the rehabilitation and upgradation of the distribution of power supply system. According to them, the hydel power stations elevated their output and achieved their targets, while Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are running in high momentum and producing to the optimum level of their efficiency.
