Punjab government has prepared a multi-pronged plan costing Rs 4 billion for the face lifting of small and middle cities and expansion of link roads in the Punjab. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday that under the plan Rs 2 billion would be spent on the provision of basic amenities in the ignored and neglected cities of the Punjab.
The basic concept of this programme was to bring these neglected cities at par with the developed parts by ensuring basic facilities to the people living in the areas of the Punjab. Similarly, Rs 2 billion would be mobilised on rehabilitation and reconstruction of link roads aimed at linking these cities with other districts and lessen the travelling difficulties of the dwellers, sources said.
The programme would only help in improving the existing infrastructure, but also generate employment opportunities in these cities. The Punjab government has focused its special attention on developing the far-off and ignored cities through the provision of basic facilities for bringing radical changes in life style of the people. The work on both the projects would be undertaken simultaneously in small and middling cities of the Punjab, sources said.
