Higher payment requirement pushed the dollar up, as a result the rupee shed five paisa against dollar for buying and selling at 82.85 and 82.90 on the interbank market on Friday, dealers said. Importers were active in purchasing dollars ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, they said and added that meeting the payments of import bills kept dollar higher versus the rupee.
In final Asian trade dollar fell to a one-year low against a basket of currencies after Chinese data came in stronger than expected and added to economic recovery hopes, prompting investors to keep shifting funds to riskier and growth-linked currencies. The dollar dropped to a seven-month low against yen and a one-year trough versus the New Zealand dollar.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee dropped five paisa versus dollar for buying and selling at 82.70 and 82.80, dealers said. The rupee moved both ways versus euro, falling five paisa for buying at Rs 119.60 while it gained 35 paisa for selling at Rs 120.10, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee declined by 5 paisa on buying side and remained unchanged on the selling side in relation to dollar in Lahore currency market on Friday. According to dealers, the dollar was traded at Rs 82.55 and Rs 82.80 against overnight Rs 82.50 and Rs 82.80 on buying and selling sides, respectively. However, the rupee remained under pressure against pound, which went up to Rs 136.70 and Rs 137.70 against Thursday's Rs 135.80 and Rs 136.80 on buying and selling counters, respectively, they said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar was down by 10 paisa against rupee at the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday. The dollar opened at Rs 82.30 (buying) and Rs 82.40 (selling) against last rate of Rs 82.40 (buying) and Rs 82.50 (selling). It did not observe further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 82.30 (buying) and Rs 82.40 (selling). Pound sterling opened at Rs 135.80 (buying) and Rs 136.80 (selling) against last rate of Rs 134.70 (buying) and Rs 135.70 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 135.80 (buying) and Rs 136.80 (selling).
