Basis bids for hard red winter wheat in the US Plains held steady Friday, with grain dealers describing the market as mostly quiet as farmers focused on fall crop harvest and field preparation for winter wheat seeding. Storage issues remained top of mind, with ground storage eyed for corn and sorghum crops following the large summer wheat harvest. Pipelines were seen as generally filled. Spot offers were adequate with demand spotty.
Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City were mostly unchanged, though premiums for ordinary and 11 percent protein wheat supplies dropped a nickel a bushel, and 11.60 and 11.80-pro wheat premiums dropped 2 cents a bushel. Wheat futures on the Kansas City Board of Trade were expected to open steady to 1 cent higher on Friday after ending higher Thursday, with the benchmark December up 1 cent at $4.73-1/2 per bushel.
