Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has taken serious notice of withdrawal of final stage enquiry against influential DSP Rana Muhammad Azeem and Inspector Muhammad Rafiq into wrongful discharge of a case involving bounced cheques of Rs 1.8 million.
Official sources told APP here Sunday that it was brought to the notice of Chief Minister that an influential police officer got withdrawn his final stage enquiry being conducted on the orders of Inspector General of Police.
SSP Special Branch, Shahid Hanif was appointed enquiry officer to conduct a thorough probe into the matter involving wrongful cancellation of FIR 484/07 at New Muslim Town police station, Lahore without associating the complainant.
The enquiry was in final stage, when all of a sudden, it was withdrawn without any plausible reason. According to rule, IGP was bound to record the reason for withdrawal of enquiry otherwise he must have waited the findings of the enquiry officer.
According to police sources, Police Inspector (Investigation) Muhammad Rafique (now In charge Investigation Police Station Johar Town) after receiving illegal gratification discharged the case registered against a Deputy Director of Agriculture Muhammad Tahir Faizi under section 489/F without associating the complainant.
The complainant and the accused reached conditional agreement that complainant will not pursue the case unless and until fresh cheques were encashed but the influential accused got the case discharged after obliging the Inspector Muhammad Rafique on the pretext that complainant had received the amount.
The then DSP, Wahdat Colony Sub Division, Rana Muhammad Azeem, without calling the complainant, endorsed the cancellation report submitted by the Inspector.
