Former president Pervez Musharraf has disclosed that the military aid provided by the United States to Pakistan for the war against terrorism had also been used, in his regime, to strengthen country's defence against India. Talking to a private TV channel, General Musharraf (Retd) admitted that he had double-crossed the US in the best interest of the country.
He said he did not care whether or not the US would be angry at what he was doing for his country. Musharraf said he was not ready to compromise on the country's interest. About his recent visit to Saudi Arabia, Musharraf claimed PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif had assured King Abdullah to respect the agreement and not to call for his (Musharraf's) trial for high treason.
He further said during his government the country's nuclear programme was so advanced that they were not only enriching uranium but also plutonium. About Pakistan's policy towards the United States, he said there was no difference in his and Asif Ali Zardari's policies. To a question, whether he would face the court in Bugti killing case, he said he was ready to appear in the court and was expecting justice from the court.
To another question, he said Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and he expected justice from him. Musharraf further said the judges who supported him would also be treated under Article 6 if he was tried under the said article.
About nuclear scientist Dr Qadeer, he said, "Dr Qadeer had done a lot but he was telling lie that he was forced to apologise before the nation." Regarding 9/11 and its consequences, he said if he did not support the US in the war against terror then it could enter the country to capture nuclear assets. He said it was also possible that the US and India would have attacked the country.
