The police on Tuesday claimed to have thwarted a major terror attack in the city and recovered huge quantity of sophisticated weapons in the jurisdiction of Saeedabad Police. According to police sources, unidentified caller informed the police about the presence of some suspicious material near a nullah adjacent to Saeedabad Police Training Centre.
A police party reached the location and found suspicious stuff there, after which the officials of Bomb Disposal Squad were summoned, they added. Police recovered two explosive jackets, seven handgrenades, eight anti-aircraft guns, a Kalashikov rifle, hundreds of rounds, two burqas etc, from the scene.
Sources said that timely action by city police averted a major likely terror activity. Police have registered a case against unidentified terrorist(s) and started further investigation. Meanwhile, at least three personnel of Pakistan Rangers received minor injuries when a low-density cracker exploded in the jurisdiction of Shahim Police on Tuesday morning.
According to police, some six jawans of Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), riding three motorcycles, were on routine patrolling in the area near Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). When they reached near Abbasi Chowk, suddenly a low-density cracker, which was already planted, exploded, resulting minor injuries to three jawans, they said. The injured, Sharif and Zafar were shifted to the ASH from where they were discharged after treatment. However, the name of the third jawan could not be ascertained. Police have registered a case and started further probe.
