Chairman of the Chief Minister's Task Force on Polio and Communicable Diseases Control, Dr Asad Ashraf, has directed the Director General Health and the EDO Health Lahore to assign duties to the students and officials of medical colleges, attached with different towns of Lahore, in the forthcoming anti-polio campaign for making the drive more effective.
He was reviewing the arrangements for anti-polio campaign, here on Sunday. Director General Health Punjab Dr Muhammad Aslam Ch, EDO (Health) Lahore, Dr Fayyaz Ahmad Ranjha, District Officers Health and District Officer Public Health Lahore and other officers of concerned departments attended the meeting. Briefing the meeting Dr Fayyaz Ranjha said polio was one of the six diseases, which spreads due to poor sanitation conditions.
He said it was not only health department's responsibility but various other departments related to sanitation and solid waste management were also duty bound for eliminating these diseases.
He said it was inevitable to improve the sanitation and cleanliness conditions, for controlling polio disease. He said even in Lahore there were four to eleven percent families reluctant to administer anti polio drops to their children. Dr Ranjha further said there was an acute need to educate the people regarding the importance of anti polio campaign.
