Indonesian shares ended 0.48 percent higher on Thursday in the first trading session of the week after a long holiday, playing catch up with earlier gains in overseas markets, dealers said. The Jakarta Composite Index gained 11.91 points to 2,468.9.
"Our bourse will look at Wall Street's performance for cues tomorrow," a trader told Dow Jones Newswires. Telecommunications giant Telkom jumped 4.2 percent to 8,750 rupiah, while rival Indosat gained 1.8 percent to 5,600. Coal miner Bumi Resources advanced 0.8 percent to 3,375 rupiah after a 1.9 billion dollar investment by China Investment Corporation. Car distributor Astra International shed 1.2 percent to 31,800 rupiah on profit-taking. The rupiah ended at 9,655 to the dollar compared to 9,705 at last close.
