Security forces have foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from Afghanistan to Bajaur agency as they impounded four mules carrying weapons for militants. While 57 militants have voluntarily surrendered to security forces, and 14 others have been arrested, besides recovery of explosive devices.
Fifty-seven terrorists surrendered to the security forces in Swat and other parts of Malakand division, while the forces arrested 14 terrorists during the ongoing 'Operation Rah-e-Raast' during the last 24 hours, said a spokesman of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), here on Friday.
The spokesman said arms and explosives were being transported from Kunar province via Khagga pass on four mules when security forces raided at Suprai and arrested a terrorist and seized the armaments and mules. The other terrorists managed to escape, he added. He said the security forces also averted death and destruction as they recovered an explosive-filled geyser, and four improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The explosive devices were recovered on the information of detained terrorist commander Abu Faraj from Mahak near Shadand Banda, he said, adding Abu Faraj also disclosed that he had been getting salary of Rs 150,000 from Fazalullah.
The spokesman said at least 44 terrorists voluntarily surrendered themselves to security forces in Kanju, tehsil Kabbal during a search and clearance operation by the security forces. With the surrender of 44 more terrorists the number of surrendered terrorists in Kabbal reached to 600. Six terrorists voluntarily surrendered themselves to security forces in Sangota during a search operation conducted by the security forces, he said.
He said three other terrorists surrendered before the security forces in Devolai area of Swat during a search operation. In Chhaprial, four other terrorists also surrendered voluntarily to the security forces. He said the security forces conducted a search and clearance operation in Rema near Barshaur area of Swat valley and arrested nine terrorists from the area. The forces conducted a search and clearance operation in Imam Dheri area of Swat and arrested four terrorists, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, twelve people were killed in a drone attack in North Waziristan. Sources said a US drone fired missiles on militant hideouts at Danday Darpakhel area located in the west of Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan. The attack killed 12 militants and injured several others. All the dead were said to be Afghans, as the missile targeted the house of an Afghan national Ahmad near the residence of Taliban Commander Jalaluddin Haqqani.
