Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday announced that the government will table an Accountability Bill in the next budget session. The Prime Minster also announced that the anti-terrorism laws would be improved so that any terrorist could not get any relief from courts during trial.
Speaking at the Golden Jubilee and Export Award Ceremony of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Sindh Governor House, the Prime Minister said there should be accountability of everyone without any discrimination. However, he said there should be some difference between revenge and accountability.
He said the government is commitment to establish a strong institution of accountability in the country to ensure fair, transparent and judicious accountability process across the board. He said the government would also improve anti-terrorism laws so that any terrorist could not get any relief from courts during trial. The Prime Minister said the political stability is necessary for economic stability and growth.
The government wants to give a direction of sustainable economic growth in the country. He emphasised that the economic policies should be continued and the changes of the government should not affect the economic policies. He announced to build a motorway from Karachi to Peshawar to improve transportation system. The motorway from Peshawar to Faisalabad has been completed.
The motorway till Multan has also been approved while the motorway from Multan to Karachi would be approved soon, he added. He said power shortage is a major challenge and the government is planning to address this issue. "Our industrial production, SMEs and other sectors have been affected due to power crisis, he said and added that the government has initiated various plans to address the issue.
Gilani asked the international community to help Pakistan as it has played very important role against terrorism. "We are not asking for aid, we actually want trade and market access in the Western countries," he added. The Prime Minister said the law and order was major hurdle in the economic growth of the country. However, he said the law and order situation has improved significantly due to affective measures taken by the government.
The success of military operation in Malakand and other parts of the country is a big example of the government efforts. He appreciated the role of Pak Army and other paramilitary forces for this success. He pointed out that the government has set its direction to improve the country's economic, political and law and order situation.
Gilani said the country's economic situation is improving as the remittances have surged and the country's forex reserves increased to over $14 billion from only $6 billion. He said the government was working to settle many national issues including the NFC award.
Federal Ministers Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Farooq Sattar, Babar Ghauri, Rana Farooq Saeed, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuro, Deputy Speaker Shahla Raza, CEO Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Mohibullah Shah, Chairman Board of Investment Salim Mandviwala and others also attended the event. KCCI President Anjum Nisar, Advisor to Sindh CM on Investment, Zubair Motiwala and business community leader Siraj Kassam Teli also spoke on this occasion.
