Three persons were killed and many others injured when motorcycle riders ambushed and showered bullets on a car in Dhok Ellahi Bakhsh area of downtown of Rawalpindi city on Sunday. Three persons including Mushtaq, Pappu Sheikh and Kala Khan in the car died on the spot, while two persons in car and many others on road were injured as a result of the indiscriminate firing by motorcyclists, eyewitnesses said.
They said that the assailants used automatic weapons for firing on the car riders. They said that when the car reached Umer Road of Dhok Ellahi Bakhsh, two persons riding a motorcycle started indiscriminate firing. Three persons in the car died on the spot, while many other injured including a woman, they said.
Dead and injured were rushed to Rawalpindi General Hospital where injured are being treated.
Police reached on the site after more than two hours of incident and no FIR was registered till filing of this report. Local people when contacted by this scribe said that it was an enmity of the people running the gambling dens in the area. They said that there are many gambling dens operating in this area and this firing is part of the enmity of the two gambling den operators.
They lamented on the role of Police saying that police has kept its eyes close towards these dens, where sale of drugs, alcohol and charas is routine besides gambling. They said that people of the area have raised the matter with high police officials but of no use and criminal negligence of police has made the criminals dare enough to silence people.
