Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister Ms. Sharmila Faruqui said on Sunday that the government would revive Swat valley as tourism spot after successful military operation and restoration of peace in the region.
In a statement issued on the occasion of the World Tourism Day, Sharmila said Swat valley is blessed with natural beauty and great tourism potential, therefore, the revival of this region as tourism spot will attract a large number of foreign as well as national tourists. This, she hoped, would generate huge revenue for the country besides strengthening bilateral ties with foreign countries. She encouraged entrepreneurs to come up with concrete measures and establish hotels, restaurants and other entertainment venues across the country, particularly in the Swat region where peace has returned.
The advisor mentioned that the government of Sindh is also making efforts to complete Gorakh Hill tourism site in Dadu district, which would also lure a large number of tourists from foreign countries. The government is also striving to further beautify tourism sites of Sindh including Mohen-jo-Daro and Keenjhar Lake, she added. Sharmila said President Asif Ali Zardari, during his recent visit, held a number of economic and political meetings with the US leadership for luring investment and high technology in the energy and rail sector.
The advisor highlighted that the World Tourism Day is vital for enhancing social, business and recreational activities.
She pointed that peace in tribal areas has been restored and autonomous government formed in Gilgit-Baltistan. "This great achievement is the outcome of the sacrifices rendered by Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and reconciliation policy adopted by President Asif Ali Zardari," she said.
