The ban on pillion riding that continued for nine months in Karachi cost them additional Rs 13 billion, which went into the pockets of transporter mafia, said Pasban leader. Karachiites remained deprived of their right of pillion riding for 9 months. On average, a deprived pillion rider spent Rs 50 per day for using public transport.
Collectively, the Karachiites spent additional Rs 13 billion in nine months for transport charges. He said permission of pillion riding is not a mercy of rulers, but the right of the people, which was given very late to them after delay of nine months.
Syed Ashraf alleged that CCPO Karachi misguided the citizens of Karachi by presenting wrong figures of crime during ban on pillion riding. The criminals live under the umbrella of police, he claimed adding the fact is that the corrupt police officials supervise the criminal gangs. If the activities of dacoits, land mafia, drug traffickers and other criminals are being seen by ordinary people, why police is blind to see them, he questioned.
