Both patients of swine flu admitted in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) are stable and will be discharged soon. According to hospital sources, swine flu patients Syed Abdul Qadir Hussain and Imran Khan are recovering and are out of serious condition now due to proper care of doctors of the hospital.
They said both patients are on five-day treatment after which they will be re-examined and if they are found stable they will be discharged from the hospital.
Deputy Director Pims, Dr Waseem Khawaja while talking to APP said that both patients have been placed in separate room under strict barrier-nursing and only designated medical and para-medical staff are looking after the patients, while non-essential staff and attendants are not allowed to enter the room.
He said, all secretions of the patients and hospital clothing in use of patients are being treated as infectious and are being autoclaved before incinerating.
He said, these techniques have been developed to protect the hospital environment from contamination with dangerous pathogens, adding, anything that comes into direct contact with the patients is considered infectious. He said the hospital has provided special protective clothing, masks and gloves to those hospital personnel who are attending the infectious patients.
Dr Khawaja said that Executive Director Pims, Dr Altaf Hussain has constituted two separate committees to look after the affairs of swine flu. He added Professor Anwar-ul-Haq and Professor Shagufta would supervise the infection control measures, while Professor Nighat Bilal will be the head of doctors' team who will treat the swine flu patients.
Similarly, another committee will look after the aspects of public health with members included Joint Executive Director Pims, Dr Jahanzeb Aurakzai, Professor Nighat Bilal, Professor Rizwan Qazi, Dr Farhana Zareef, Dr Waseem Khawaja, Professor Anwar-ul-Haq, Professor Shagufta, Chief Nursing Superintendent, Kalsoom Akhter, Nursing Supervisor, Nighat and Chief Pharmacist, Dr Gulzar.
