Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has directed the provincial administration to ensure sale of sugar at Rs 40 per kilogram and evolve comprehensive strategy in this regard. Presiding over a meeting to review the sale of sugar following the Supreme Court instruction to sell sugar at Rs 40 per kg.
The Chief Minister asked the concerned authorities to immediately activate the 1100 price control magistrates to ensure the sale of sugar at the rate fixed by the apex court. He said that the government would not tolerate overcharging by anyone. The Chief Minister asked that it should be ensured that sugar should come to markets direct from the mills and solid steps should be taken to monitor this process.
He also called for holding negotiations with the sugar mill owners and sugar dealers to ensure the sale of the commodity at the price. Chief Secretary Punjab told the meeting that a strategy had been chalked out to ensure sale of sugar at Rs 40 per kilogram as it was sold during the month of Ramazan.
He said that details of stocks of all the sugar mills had been achieved and special teams of administration and police had been deputed there, while notification to activate 100 price control magistrates would also be issued today (Friday), he concluded. The meeting was attended by the Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Finance Minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary Home, Secretary Food, Commissioner Lahore Division and senior officers concerned.
