A two-day exhibition of Handicrafts by disabled persons concluded here on Sunday at Sachet-Pakistan's Shop for a Cause. The exhibition was arranged to promote the work of disadvantaged community through out the country.
The disabled persons of the Rehabilitation Centre for the Physically Disabled (RCPD) Peshawar and Rural Community Council (RCC) Mansehra participated in the exhibition.
Under its poverty alleviation programme, the Sachet (Society for the Advancement of Community, Health, Education and Training) aims at empowering disadvantaged people, especially females, victims and survivors of different forms of violence, including dowry violence. Sachet strategically operates towards building motivation among the sufferers and victims to change their position and condition.
The Shop for a Cause exhibited handmade products, including fabric made items, porcelain jewellery, a wide range of interior decors and many other innovative things, were set up at the `shop for a cause' which offers marketing and sales outlet.
This large variety of handmade products is a part of exhibition by the disabled persons and rural women of the country to empower the skilled women economically and socially. Handmade paper bags are the branded products of the Shop for a cause, which are made by the skilled women at Sachet crafts centres in rural areas.
Another unique feature of the shop includes traditional but fading art work, embroideries and stitches of all kind made by women from NWFP, Hunza, Chitral and Sindh and traditional embroidered work of Punjab and Balochistan.
At the exhibition, one can see a number of handmade items like paper bags, shawls, Riyak salt lamps, vases, jewellery, interior decors and traditional fabrics.
The gallery promotes the indigenous art and craft of emerging and mid career artists from all parts of the country and periodically showcases the struggle of citizens' sector through diverse media and artistic expressions.
It works in urban slums, rural and difficult areas with disadvantaged communities with the objective of promoting human development of the disadvantaged with gender perspective.
The regular events of the gallery include screening of videos on social, political and economic issues, panel discussions on art, society and emerging development issues and workshops on various topics.
Sachet's Shop for a cause offers a marketing and sales outlet for the home-grown thus exclusive products by the home-based workers (women and men) in the capital city.
