International Symposium on Biotechnology: elaborate use of computer, IT for research stressed
Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr Javaid Laghari, has called upon scholars and students of universities of the country to make elaborate use of computer and information technology to enhance their knowledge and get help in research activities.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day International Symposium on Biotechnology organised by the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering University of Sindh in collaboration with the HEC and the National Commission on Biotechnology, here on Monday. A number of scholars from Pakistan, Iran and Russia are participating in the symposium.
Dr Laghari, appreciating research and academic activities by the University and the Institute, said students should not rely only on classes but also look around the globe through internet where new information about every subject was available. Dr Laghari said, "Biotechnology is an old discipline as the Universe is and we have to begin understanding it now." He pointed out that Biotechnology had got attention recently due to homogeny in 1990.
He said there had been progress in science and technology due to internet access, and added that way a big advantage to scholars was availability of computer and super computer. The inaugural session of the international symposium was also attended by Dr Noushad Ahmed Shaikh Vice Chancellor LUMHS, Dr A.Q.K Rajput Vice Chancellor of MUET, and Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh Pro Vice Chancellor Sindh University.
