Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has paid tributes to the UN World Food Programme officials who were killed in a terrorist attack on their office in Islamabad on Monday, saying they were serving a "noble cause." In a letter to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Gilani expressed his "heart-felt" condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the recovery of those injured.
"The WFP officials sacrificed their lives while serving a noble cause," Gilani wrote. "They will be remembered for their commendable services by the people of Pakistan". He said, "Such cowardly terrorist acts will never weaken our resolve to fight against this scourge. We will continue to work with the international community and the UN with greater vigour to root out terrorism from our country and the region at large."
