Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif here on Wednesday took suo motu notice against Misri Shah police for kidnapping a lawyer and keeping him in illegal detention. The Chief Justice directed SP City division and SHO concerned to appear before the court on October 9 along with case record.
The CJ took notice on a news item appeared in different national dailies stating that personnel of Misri Shah police kidnapped a local lawyer Amir Riaz outside civil courts, tortured him and kept him illegal detention for four hours due to his prosecution in a murder case and release on protest lodged by lawyers. The CJ directed Advocate General Punjab to ensure the presence of police officers in court and also assist the court on the matter.
