Director General of the Airport Security Force (ASF), Brigadier Sahir Aslam Butt (Retd) the other day announced promotion and distributed cash prizes and commendatory certificates to those security personnel who had foiled attempts to smuggle arms and drugs.
The DG gave away Rs 50,000 cash, commendation certificate to Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ajmal and promoted him for thwarting an arms smuggling bid on October 04. A passenger travelling to Athens through Dubai from Karachi International Airport (KIA) had packed the parts of a 9mm pistol in his luggage, but the ASF personnel on checking recovered the weapon, the DG said. He also gave away Rs 10,000 cash and commendation certificate to another sub-inspector Zahid Mehmood for foiling a bid of 1.52 kg heroin smuggling during checking at KIA.
A passenger going to Bangkok from Thai Airlines flight TG-508 had packed heroin in a suitcase and he was intercepted at hold luggage machine and on inspection the security personnel recovered the drugs from his possession, he added. Talking to newsmen after a press briefing, he vowed that the force would continue its mission to thwart every anti-state attempt. "Not only Peshawar and Quetta airports, the ASF have its complete focus at all airports of the country," he said.
