Appointments in irrigation department stayed

The Lahore High Court (LHC) while staying contractual appointments in Irrigation department, sought report from respondents for October 03. The court issued these orders in a petition filed by Azhar Ali Khan, a SDO of the department. Petitioner submitted that the department was recruiting contractual staff for grade 17.
He said that the department could not make direct appointments for grade 17 as the same could be done through Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). Petitioner pleaded that the Secretary irrigation got a summary approved from the Chief Minister Secretariat for the appointments of contractual staff directly which, he said, was in violation of settled rules. He prayed to the court to declare the appointment process as null and void.
