Karachi's glittering Shadab Football Stadium will enter as new venue in PFF books, when 9-time national Champion Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will take on 1982 national title holder HBL in gleaming grass of newly-introduced football pitch on Friday. It is one of the 14 venues in eight cities approved by Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)'s President for 152-day, 182-match Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL).
The new venue will host 10 matches (six home matches of PIA and four of NBP). Situated in Federal-B-Area, which is definitely among the best planned localities of Pakistan, Shadab Soccer stadia in Union Council 3 (Aisha Manzil), Block 11, was cricket ground but on 23 March 1984 it has been turned into a soccer ground due to the efforts of footballers Azam Ali, Adnan Mehmood and Farooq Rasheed, younger brother of Sydney Test 1977 hero Haroon Rasheed who started his cricket from Shadab CC that was formed in 1967.
Having area as per FIFA requirements, Shadab ground saw flood-lit system in 1989, inaugurated by former councillor Pirzada Muhammad Rafi alias Baboo Bhai. The sandy turf was transformed into lush green grass on 6 May 2007 presenting a beautiful look and it pulled several youngsters towards the venue and promote healthy atmosphere around Gulberg and nearby localities.
Meanwhile, former skippers Ghulam Rabbani, Haroon Yousuf, Jaffar Khan, Sarfraz Rasool, Tanveer Ahmed, Akber Raisani praised the efforts of Shadab management and said the memorable and gentlemen work of Gulberg Town Nazim Muhammad Kamal Malik, Naib Nazim Saeed Ahmed Siddiqui, UC nazim M. Iftikhar Alam, Town Municipal Officer Muhammad Nadeem and Arshed Malik will ever be remembered for generating sports activity and healthy atmosphere around the area.
