Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday staged a demonstration in front of Multan Press Club to condemn the Kerry-Lugar bill, and warned that if the controversial and anti-sovereignty clauses in the Kerry-Lugar Bill were not removed the nation would carry out street agitation against the bill.
PTI central vice president Ijaz Ahmed, and district president Muhammad Saleem Bukhari expressed these views while talking to newsmen here on Friday after the demonstration. They claimed that the Kerry-Lugar Bill is a conspiracy against Pakistan and the army, which would weaken the country's system and thus allow foreign powers to put more pressure on Pakistan. "The controversial bill reflects failure of both the Foreign Minister and the Pakistan Ambassador to US and their ill-conceived foreign policies. Both have failed to lobby Pakistan's concerns in the US," they added.
They said the Kerry-Lugar Bill would shake the foundations of Pakistan and provide opportunities to foreign powers, including India, to take advantage of it. They argued that the Bill had created anxiety in the army, which should concern everybody, as this could create a wedge between the government and the army and thus pose a threat to democracy in the country. According to them, acceptance of the bill with controversial clauses by the PPP government would be tantamount to treason against Pakistan.
