Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said Supreme Court decision to fix sugar price at Rs40 per kg would be implemented strictly and all DCOs and other Revenue Officers having judicial powers have been directed to take action against cartels and illegal profiteers. He said there was no shortage of sugar, saying the commodity is being hoarded for profiteering.
Talking to the journalists after laying foundation stone of the Poly Trade Institute near Dumbalo, District Badin here on Friday, he said that the government was defending the interest of growers and fixed Irri rice price at Rs600 per 40 kg.
To a question he said the government has not imposed any tax on the sale of rice and directed the administration concerned to take strict action against those factory owners who are fraudulently deducting Rs4 on per mound of the rice during purchase from growers on pretext of rice tax. Earlier, addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Poly Trade Institute, the Chief Minister said PPP-led government is striving hard to bring socio-economic revolution in the country.
He said that in addition to the 40 thousand acres land which was distributed among the landless poor farmers mostly female, the government has arranged to distribute more one lac acres land among the landless female farmers and each family to be allotted 25 acres land.
However, he made it clear, the transfer of this land has been prohibited and any such sale or transaction would be treated as an offence. Qaim said that 30 percent water shortage has been predicted by experts during Rabbi Season and advised the growers to efficiently utilise the irrigation water. He said that present government was implementing various schemes to empower and strengthen the women folk.
