Rich tributes were paid to a former chief minister of Sindh, Pir Illahi Bux on the occasion of his 34th death anniversary. A seminar was organised on the occasion at the Sindh Assembly here, says a statement on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the province of Sindh as well as the entire Pakistan is proud of late Pir Illahi Bux.
He said that Pir Sahib had served as the chief minister of Sindh as well as provincial education minister. Syed Qaim Ali Shah said Pir Illahi Bux was the longest serving member of the provincial assembly. Pir Sahib had also played an important role during the Pakistan Movement, he added.
He said that Pir Sahib had provided a building to Molvi Abdul Haq where foundation of Anjuman Tarraqi-e-Urdu was laid and later Urdu College was opened there.
Pir Sahib as such was founder of the Urdu College and that he is also considered among the founders of Sindh Madressah, he added. Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that Pir Sahib played a significant role towards the promotion of education. He also recalled Pir Sahib's services towards the rehabilitation of refugees after the creation of Pakistan. Sindh Education Minister, Pir Mazhar ul Haq, who is the grandson of Pir Illahi Bux, also spoke on the occasion.
