Mexico joins Canada in WTO US labeling dispute

Mexico's government said on Friday it is joining Canada in asking the World Trade Organisation to settle a dispute with Washington over US meat labeling rules, saying they unfairly hurt its exports. Mexico's government said in a statement it has asked for a WTO arbitration panel to challenge the US mandatory country-of-origin labeling (COOL) law, established last year.
COOL requires companies to track and notify customers of the country of origin of meat and other farm products at each major stage of production, from slaughter to grocery stores.
