Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday said that civil and military leadership would be taken into confidence before taking any decision regarding Kerry-Lugar bill, calling for ending the ongoing criticism of the bill.
"Government has the ability and vision to settle the issue and it will not take any decision without taking the country's civil and military leadership into confidence," the Prime Minister said while talking to media here on Saturday after inaugurating "Dualisation of Lehtrar Road Trammari Chowk to PINSTECH Phase-II Project," costing Rs 735 million.
Gilani said that he would be holding a high level meeting today (Saturday) at Presidency with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to discuss Kerry-Lugar Bill, law and order situation and other important issues. Addressing the participants of the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister said the government has diverted all the necessary funds towards infrastructure development, as it is one of its main priorities.
Gilani directed the Authority to make the capital an international city and equip it with all the facilities that would attract foreign investment. He asked CDA to complete all its ongoing projects within the stipulated time period. Addressing the participants, Chairman CDA Imtiaz Inayat Elahi said there is a need to put an end to selling culture of major national assets.
"In the past if we would have concentrated on generating permanent resources through sustainable development the financial position of the Authority would have been much better today", he said. Imtiaz said long-term and short-term policies have been devised to make CDA financially strong. For the purpose, efforts are being made to clip the expenses of the authority through strict financial discipline, he added.
CDA chairman said to make Islamabad green and clean the construction of first Proper Sanitary Landfill will be initiated soon. Besides, compost plant will also be established, he added. "CDA will soon start Double Decker bus service for tourists and citizens of the capital", he maintained.
The chairman further informed the participants that soon the possession letters of sector D-12 would be distributed among the allotees by the Prime Minister, as the Authority has resolved the 20 years old lingering issues. Sharing the details of Lehtrar Road project, a senior CDA official told this scribe that the project would be completed in 18 months. The length of the road is eight kilometers.
The official said the project would serve the local residents by easing existing traffic load on the Lehtrar Road, which reached 8,250 vehicles per day according to a study conducted by CDA recently.
It will provide faster and shortest access to Lehtrar, Nilore, Kahutta, Ali Pur Farash, Tumair, Simly, PINSTECH etc along with the development of Islamabad Zone IV and provide alternate connectivity with Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree and Azad Jummu and Kashmir especially to Bagh and Rawalakot. Chairman CDA, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, Water and Power Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Senator Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Baber Awan, parliamentarians and senior CDA officials were present on the occasion.
