The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is going to decentralise the registration process of direct and indirect taxes, as 'E-support Wing', which is considered to be a solely responsible entity, has failed to entertain aspirants in this regard.
Sources told Business Recorder on Saturday that the decision to centralise the registration process of sales tax and income tax through 'E-support wing' has created deadlock, which has left no option but to decentralise it again. They said that the registration process, which is supposed to be done in hours, has been halted for months because of applications galore.
Therefore, the board is planning to authorise the local collectorates again to issue registration certificates, which would help in reducing the backlog of applications, they added. However, sources dispelled the perception of terminating 'E-support wing', saying that the wing would also be empowered to dispatch the registration certifications.
"In the past, the local collectorates had been authorised to process the applications, within days, through PRAL counters, but after commencement of the centralised system, the power was granted to 'E-support wing' and the registration certificates were issued from Islamabad," they said.
Sources said that board is also pondering to allow the changes made by the applicants in the submitted forms, which was inadmissible in current centralised system. They further said that some necessary options, which were dropped in the combined form, would also be redressed by the board.
