National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak) Managing Director Asad I A Khan has said that Nespak is financially a self-sufficient company and has paid to the government over Rs 350 million in the shape of taxes, and dividend up to June 30, 2009.
The company has consistently shown profits every year after successfully competing with the best in the world, both technically and professionally, he said, and added that in the recent years Nespak has set an all-time record of business acquisition through open competition.
In his statement issued on Monday, Asad said that in 2004-05, Nespak acquired business worth Rs 2.7 billion, which increased to Rs 4.5 billion in 2005-06, to Rs 5 billion in 2006-07, and last year the company acquired business worth over Rs 6.5 billion, which is an all-time record.
He said that Nespak has executed 3000 large engineering projects in Pakistan and 34 other countries since its establishment in 1973. He said that Nespak started its operations 36 years ago with a professional staff of 25 persons in two rooms in Wapda House and today it has over 3500 employees, out of which over 2500 are highly qualified engineers, architects, geologists, agronomists, economists and other professional experts. Out of them, 250 are holding Ph D and other postgraduate degrees, mostly from reputed foreign universities.
Asad attributed the success of Nespak mostly to the commitment and dedicated services of its professional experts, support staff and also to the patronage and unstinted help of its parent Ministry of Water and Power.
He said that the company has also greatly helped Pakistan in achieving self-reliance and self-sufficiency in various disciplines of engineering and architecture and reduced dependence on foreign consultants, and this experience is a great national asset.
The Nespak Managing Director said that the company has now emerged as the top organisation of consulting engineers in Pakistan and one of the top companies in the world, which has earned great laurels for the country by achieving successful results. He said that Engineering Consultancy has today become a highly competitive profession in all countries and successful entry of Nespak in the world market, despite high competition, is a feather in its cap.
The countries where Nespak has been exporting engineering services are located in the Middle East, Far East, Asia, Africa and several other Muslim countries including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, he said. The engineering services being provided by Nespak include feasibility reports, survey, mapping, investigation, architectural design, contract documents, construction supervision and technical management, he added.
