Sindh government's Anti-Corruption Department would work as a 'watchdog' to check performance of the institutions to address grievances of general public, which take a long time due to apathy of authorities concerned, it is learnt. According to sources, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had recently directed the Anti-Corruption Department to play an active role and take strict measures to resolve genuine problems, particularly related to utilities' services.
They opined that the Anti-Corruption Department would play a pivotal role to resolve issues of general public by directly interacting with the authorities, responsible for the problem, adding that this practice would provide relief to the common man whose problems remained unattended despite several attempts. Government departments and utilities would give prompt response to the officials of the Anti-Corruption Department, which would facilitate citizens in resolving their routine issues.
In compliance with the directives of the Chief Minister, the Anti-Corruption Department had established a complaint cell at the Deputy Director/Circle Office for redressal of public grievances and the aggrieved persons might contact to the in-charge of the cell from 10 am to 12 noon during office working days, they added.
Further, the Anti-Corruption Department through letter No SO (Admn) E&AC-I/3-415/09 had directed its field officers in different districts to play a proactive role. It instructed the Director Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), Deputy Directors and Circle Officers to establish complaint cells in their offices by October 15.
When contacted, Chairman Anti-Corruption Mir Mohammad Parhiyar told Business Recorder that the motive behind setting up complaints cell in all 23 districts of the province was aimed at resolving issues of citizens at grassroots level as soon as possible. "The Chief Minister is keen to resolve public issues regarding civic facilities and our department can play a very important role in this regard," he said.
Besides, the officials of the Anti-Corruption Department in the province had been asked to create awareness among citizens by displaying banners, pamphlets at prominent locations such as bus stands, government buildings, markets, main roads and roundabouts etc with the telephone numbers of complaint cells, which would be set up by October 15.
The services of print and electronic media would also be sought for awareness campaign, the chairman added. Mir Mohammad Parhiyar further said the officials at the complaint cells would also submit progress reports on daily basis to improve governance in the province.
