Hard red winter wheat futures on the Kansas City Board of Trade ended more than 5 percent higher on Monday as a weaker dollar and weather worries buoyed prices. The benchmark Kansas City Board of Trade December contract ended up 26 cents, or 5.4 percent, at $5.11, the highest level since September 3. December wheat climbed as high as $5.13 on the day.
Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures led gains, and CBOT corn and wheat futures also were sharply higher as a weaker dollar made US wheat more competitive in export channels. Support stemmed in part from the freezing temperatures and wet conditions that were hindering harvest of row crops, and in some areas delaying winter wheat seeding.
