The average price of Bangladeshi teas fell 1.85 percent to 138.08 taka ($2.00) per kg on poor quality at the weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said. About 1.53 million kg were sold on average at 138.08 taka per kg, down 2.60 taka from the last sale. Some 11.93 percent of teas on offer remained unsold and were taken back.
Buyers for Pakistan and Bangladesh, including exporters mainly to the Commonwealth of Independent States participated in the sale at the country's lone auction centre in the main port city Chittagong. Some 300 kg of Golden Broken Orange Pekoe realised the highest price of 190 taka per kg followed by another 100 kg of good liquoring Pekoe Fannings selling at 185 taka while other grades were sold between 110 taka and 182 taka per kg. The next weekly auction will be held on October 20, with an offer of 1.73 million kg.
