Indonesian shares closed 0.62 percent higher on Tuesday on foreign bargain buying and a stronger rupiah after falls over the previous four days, dealers said. The Jakarta Composite Index gained 15.31 points to 2,471.99. "Foreign buying in plantation and telecommunication blue chips kept the main index in the green," a trader told Dow Jones Newswires.
Foreigners were net buyers of 169 billion rupiah (17.91 million dollars) worth of shares. Telkom gained 1.2 percent to 8,800 rupiah, while rival Indosat advanced 1.8 percent to 5,600. Plantation company Astra Agro Lestari jumped 3.3 percent to 21,850 rupiah. The rupiah closed at 9,445 to the dollar compared to 9,480 at the last close.
