Interpol is issuing special passports to its senior investigators to enable them to enter any of its 188 member countries without visas. Interpol Secretary-General Ronald K. Noble says Pakistan and Ukraine have agreed to honour the documents. He says he is hopeful other countries will do the same.
He made the announcement Tuesday during the organisation's general assembly here. He says the aim is to ensure that Interpol investigators, who are of various nationalities, reach the site of a terrorist attack or natural disaster quickly without being bogged down by visa red-tape. Noble said some 1,000 investigators and heads of Interpol offices world-wide would be given these passports, similar to the ones held by diplomats.
