The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has withdraw sales tax exemption on the fresh, liquid and dried milk with addition of sugar or any other sweetening matter whether packed or not and dried milk without addition of sugar or any other sweetening matter, whether packed or not. However, the FBR has not withdrawn sales tax zero-rating facility for the dairy sector.
The FBR has amended SRO.551(I)/2008 through a notification issued here on Wednesday.In order to remove the anomaly of zero-rating and exemption available to dairy products at the same time, the exemption is being withdrawn. However, zero-rating of these dairy products shall continue without any change, FBR added.
Following is the text of the notification: S.R.O. 879(I)/2009.- In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-section (2) of section 13 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, the Federal Government is pleased to direct that the following further amendments shall be made in its Notification No S.R.O. 551(I)/2008, dated the 11th June, 2008, namely: In the aforesaid Notification, in the Table, serial numbers (8) and (9) in column (1) and the entries relating thereto in columns (2) and (3) shall be omitted.
