FBR Auditors and Senior Auditors Welfare Association has rejected the impression created by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) that auditors and senior auditors would perform their duties under the Audit Wing of the FBR.
During a protest held outside Islamabad Press Club here on Wednesday, Afzal Malik, President of the association, told reporters that their grievances regarding promotion to the next higher grades were still unresolved. The FBR management is repeatedly denying their fundamental right of promotion. Despite a lapse of 13 years, their career path could not be finalised by FBR, he added.
He said that out of 350 senior auditors, only seven were promoted; whereas the remaining about more than 900 auditors and senior auditors are still waiting for their constitutional right of promotion, which is due for last 13 years.
He added that for the sake of justice, the association has approached the courts as well as senior management of FBR. Afzal categorically dispelled the impression given by FBR management that auditors are functioning only in Audit Wing of the FBR. There are many other duties/assignments like processing of sales tax refunds filed by of exporters/claimants; unearthing the new units/persons to broaden the tax base, functioning as departmental representative before the Collector (Appeals), Appellate Tribunals and superior Courts etc which are being performed by the auditors.
In the prevailing circumstances, they were left with no other option but to go for a countrywide protest, which has already been started and is likely to continue till resolution of their grievances, he added.
