The Senate Standing/Functional Committees on Education, Government Assurances, Minorities Affairs, Environment, Overseas Pakistanis, Population Welfare, Science and Technology, Sports and Youth Affairs, Textile Industry, Commerce and Information and Broadcasting Thursday elected their Chairmen/ Chairpersons respectively in separate meetings held at the Parliament House.
The election was held at the Parliament House here on Thursday, as contemplated by the Rule 163 (1) of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate, 1988. The proceedings were conducted by Special Secretary Senate, Iftikharullah Khan Babar and were witnessed by Leader of the House in the Senate, Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari and a number of other senators.
Senators S M Zafar, Moula Bakhsh Chandio, Mir Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Humayun Khan, Dr Khatu Mal, Ms Semeen Siddiqui, Nawabzada Muhammad Akbar Magsi, Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi, Gul Muhammad Lot, Ilyas Ahmed Bilour and Haji Ghulam Ali were elected unopposed as Chairmen of Education, Government Assurances, Minorities Affairs, Environment, Overseas Pakistanis, Population Welfare, Science and Technology, Sports and Youth Affairs, Textile Industry, Commerce and Information and Broadcasting Committees respectively. The name of Senator S M Zafar was proposed for Chairmanship of the Standing Committee on Education by Senator Jan Muhammad Khan Jamali and seconded by Senators Surraya Amiruddin, Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada and Begum Najma Hameed.
The Committee through a resolution eulogised the services of Senator Razina Alam Khan former Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Education for improving the standard and quality of education in the country.
The name of Senator Moula Bakhsh Chandio was proposed for Chairmanship of Standing Committee on Government Assurances by Senator Javed Ali Shah and seconded by Senator Hafiz Rashid Ahmed. The name of Senator Mir Muhammad Ali was proposed for Chairmanship of Standing Committee on Minorities Affairs by Senator S M Zafar and Gulshan Saeed and seconded by Senator Kalsoom Parveen.
The name of Senator Muhammad Humayun Khan was proposed for Chairmanship of Standing Committee on Environment by Senator Javed Ali Shah and seconded by Senator Hafiz Rashid. The name of Senator Dr Khatu Mal was proposed for Chairmanship of Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis by Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi and seconded by Senators Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, Abdul Nabi Bangash and Naeem Hussain Chattha. During the election of Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Population Welfare, the name of Senator Semeen Siddiqui was proposed for Chairpersonship of the Committee by Senator Haji Ghulam Ali and was seconded by Senator Shirala Malik.
The name of Senator Nawabzada Muhammad Akbar Magsi was proposed for Chairmanship of Standing Committee on Science and Technology by Senator Khalid Mahmood Soomro and was seconded by Senator Semeen Siddiqui. Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi's name was proposed by Senator Naeem Hussain Chattha for the Chairmanship of Standing Committee on Sports and Youth Affairs and was seconded by Senator Muhammad Jehangir Badar.
The name of Senator Gul Muhammd Lot was proposed by Senator Abdul Raziq for Chairmanship of Standing Committee on Textile Industry and was seconded by Deputy Chairman Senate, Mir Jan Muhammad Khan Jamali.
Whereas, the name of Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour was proposed for Chairmanship of the Standing Committee on Commerce by Senator Haroon Khan and seconded by Senators Abdul Raziq and Gulshan Saeed. The name of Senator Haji Ghulam Ali was proposed by Senator Gul Muhammad Lot to head the Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting. It was seconded by Shirala Malik. The elected Chairmen/Chairpersons thanked their colleagues for reposing confidence in them and assured that they would rise above party divides and work in the greatest interest of the country and the nation.
