The nation is observing the 58th anniversary of Shaheed-i-Millat, Liaquat Ali Khan today (Friday) with solemnity, renewing the pledge to make every sacrifice to rid the country of terrorists and extremists.
People from various walks of life will visit the grave of Shaheed -e-Millat to pay homage to the trusted lieutenant of the Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and first Prime Minister of Pakistan, who was assassinated on 16th October 1951 during a public meeting at Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi.
Liaquat Ali Khan (1896-1951) was the first Prime Minister of Pakistan and a great leader of Pakistan Movement. After passing away of the Quaid-e-Azam in 1948, heavy responsibility fell on Shaheed-e-Millat to keep the newly created state on the map of the world as a united, consolidated, strong state, and introduce economic, political and social reforms and resettle millions of refugees coming from India.
It may be recalled that the nation gave Liaquat Ali Khan title of Quaid-i-Millat in his life and Shaheed-i-Millat after his assassination. He is remembered as an outstanding statesman who played a vital role in achieving a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent, under the leadership of the Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
