Firmness prevailed on the currency market on Friday as the rupee did not show any change against the dollar in process of trading, dealers said. On the interbank market, the rupee did not move any side in terms of dollar for buying and selling at 83.20 and 83.25, they said.
At the final session in Asian market yen stayed under broad pressure as investors cut some of their long positions, while sterling approached its highest level in three weeks following upbeat central bank comments.
The yen struggled as short covering in the pound spilled over to other cross/yen pairs, easing to as far as 90.99 per dollar from 90.60 late on Thursday in New York where it lost over one percent. The euro and high-yielding currencies such as the Australian and the New Zealand dollars hit new highs for the year against dollar after positive US data and encouraging corporate earnings prompted investors to further build long positions, dealers said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee followed same track as it retained its overnight level against dollar for buying and selling at 83.25 and 83.35, dealers said. The rupee, somehow, managed to recover 25 paisa against euro for buying and selling at 123.70 and Rs 124.20, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged amid low trading in Lahore currency market on Friday. According to dealers, the dollar resumed trading at overnight closing of Rs 83.45 and Rs 83.70 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The opening rates continued to prevail throughout the day, they said. However, the rupee lost against pound, which was purchased and sold at Rs 134.80 and Rs 135.50 as compared to Thursday's Rs 133.50 and Rs 134.50, respectively, dealers said.
