Punjab Governor Salman Taseer on Friday said there were not any training camps of terrorists in southern Punjab, however, Dera Ghazi Khan was a sensitive area. He said this while talking to the media during his visit to Lahore General Hospital where he enquired after the health of the policemen who had been injured while gallantly fighting attackers at Manawan Police Training Centre and Elite Police Academy at Bedian Road on Thursday.
Twelve policemen and five civilians had lost their lives in a series of terrorist attacks in Lahore on Thursday, while 10 attackers had also been killed. The Lahorites saluted the security personnel who embraced Shahadat in the performance of their duties. Salman Taseer said the provincial government must pay special attention on security situation.
He said the whole nation was showing determination to foil nefarious designs of terrorists. "People are courageously facing the terrorists," he added. He also said attackers of Thursday's incidents were fully trained. He said strategy was being evolved to overcome acts of terrorism and the government would defeat the terrorists who were traitors. "No operation in southern Punjab"
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah told reporters during his visit to Elite Police Training Academy that the government would not launch any operation in southern Punjab. However, he said a number of suspects had been arrested from different parts of the province in connection with Thursday's Lahore attacks.
He was of the view that there was no need to launch any operation in southern Punjab, because outlawed outfits had no authority there. Sanaullah said arrests had been made throughout the Punjab province, however, he did not mention exact number of arrested persons due to security reasons. To a query, he said, "Evidences have been found about terrorists involved in Lahore attacks and sensitive agencies are working on these evidences." He said new security plan had been chalked out for Punjab, including Lahore to ensure security of citizens.
