The unprecedented security arrangements made by the law enforcement agencies following a series of terrorist attacks in Lahore have created a sense of anxiety among the inhabitants of the provincial metropolis. The barricades put up by security officials on different city roads were not only causing hardships to the people but also creating a sense of insecurity, said Ayesha, a school teacher.
Hurdles have been created in the Cantonment area, Sharah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, Club Road, IG Office, Queens Road, Cooper Road etc. These hurdles are hitting hard to the residents, as they are facing difficulties in reaching their destinations. Police officials were seen alert throughout the day on Friday.
Different schools, particularly those located in the vicinity of the areas where terrorists struck on Thursday, remained closed. Attendance in other educational institutions was also thin. "We are deeply perturbed over Thursday's incidents and feeling ourselves insecure," Saleh Rauf, a student of the Punjab University told Business Recorder.
According to her, the deteriorating law and order situation was not only a matter of concern for law enforcement agencies but also posed manifold challenges for which an effective strategy needed to be adopted for the security of citizens. According to psychiatric experts, terrorist activities were causing depression and restlessness among the people, as more and more cases were surfacing.
