Drug Control Committee has seized spurious, expired, unregistered and official medicines from a private hospital located along Kawari Road and several medical stores of Jinnah Road Medical Complex Quetta in raids on Friday.
APP learnt on Saturday that a team of the Health Department comprising Senior Drug Inspector Malik Masood, Magistrate Murad Marri, Zonal Drug Inspector and others along with police conducted raids at a hospital along Kawari Road and several medical stores of Jinnah Road and seized huge cache of fake and expired medicines.
The committee has sent the confiscated medicine to official laboratory for test. Drug Inspector Malik Masood told media that Secretary Quality Control Board Balochistan had recommended to take necessary action against owners of the hospital and medical stores involved in selling spurious and expired medicines. He maintained that provincial government had planned to take stern action against pharmacies and medical stores involved in selling such medicines.
He added that only pharmacist had right to run business of medical store but unqualified persons who had no knowledge about medicines were found working in medical stores. He further told that Magistrate had also imposed fined owners of some medical stores. It is interesting to note that official medicines, which are provided to patients at the government hospitals free of cost, were found at few medical stores. It is worth mentioning that three months back, Sariab police Quetta had seized one of the largest caches of spurious life saving drugs in the history of the country.
