Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has that the steps, taken for provision of sugar on fixed rates to the people throughout the province, have yielded positive results and sugar is easily available to the masses at the rate of Rs 40 per kilogram. He directed the provincial administration to evolve a strategy with the sugar mill owners in connection with the forthcoming crushing season.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held to discuss provision of sugar at fixed rates, here Saturday. Besides Punjab Food Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran, the meeting was attended by the Home Secretary, Inspector General of Punjab Police, Secretaries of Food and Industries Departments, Commissioner of Lahore Division and other concerned senior officers.
The Chief Minister said that satisfaction of the Supreme Court over the performance of Punjab was an honour for the provincial government. He, however, stressed upon the administration to work more efficiently and leave no stone unturned in providing relief to the people. He directed the concerned authorities to keep him informed on daily basis about the provision of sugar on fixed rates during his stay abroad.
Earlier, the Food Minister apprised the meeting of the details regarding provision of sugar on fixed rates in the province. In another meeting, convened to review the law and order situation in the province, the Chief Minister said that the protection of lives and property of the people and maintenance of law and order was the responsibility of the government and no stone would be left unturned in this regard.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Advisor to Chief Minister Jehanzaib Burki. The meeting discussed a number of steps to further improve the working of the law-enforcement agencies in the province. Stressing the need for close co-ordination among various agencies to combat any emergent or untoward situation, the Chief Minister said that the police should remain vigilant and keep a watchful eye on terrorists and saboteurs.
Later, before leaving for London, the Chief Minister also inspected Ring Road Package-7 near Lahore airport, and directed its timely completion. He said that this project was the gate of Lahore, therefore, it should be made more beautiful so that the passengers, visiting Lahore airport, should get a good impression.
He said that besides installation of modern lights, extensive tree plantation should be carried out. On this occasion, concerned authorities briefed him about the pace of progress of the project. The Commissioner of Lahore Division and District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) of Lahore were also present.
