The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said that military operation against terrorists in South Waziristan may help regain investors' confidence.
It will spark confidence of local as well as foreign investors and change the mood in stock market. This will also help country combat menace of unemployment.
"If successful like previous operation in Swat, it will bring peace and economic activity will pick up," said Dr Murtaza Mughal, President PEW. He said that economic progress isn't possible without peace therefore all segments of society should support the move. The recent operation is not only a matter of live and death for Taliban but for people of Pakistan too.
He said, "Some policies of the government have started paying dividends and an economic turnaround is in sight after long pause of two years." Economic activity was at lowest ebb after dismissal of Chief Justice while the International financial turmoil also played its role in damaging situation, he said.
The government should reconsider interest rates, issues relating to rental power projects, ignored textile sector, corporate farming and excessive borrowings. All these issues are hurting growth. Flight of capital has reduced, many industrialists are doubling capacity of their units while a number of foreign countries as well as multinationals are interested in investment in Pakistan which is a good omen.-PR
