Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) on Sunday raided Jamia Muhammadia and arrested five suspected persons from the premises of the seminary. On Sunday evening Islamabad police raided Jamia Mohammadia located in Sector F-6 and arrested five suspected persons and shifted them to some unknown place in a police van.
However, Maulana Zahoor Ahmed, one of the teachers of the seminary said that no body was arrested from the Madrasa and those who were in the van had come with the police. It is to be mentioned here that the security measures have been beefed up in the twin cities following the attack on General Headquarter, Rawalpindi and after the launch of fresh operation against militants in South Waziristan .
LEAs are raiding different hideouts of suspected people in the twin cities in a pre-emptive measure to nab the miscreants, and particularly the unregistered Madaris are being targeted. Meanwhile, Secretary General Wifaqul Madaris Hanif Jalandhry has condemned the police raid on Jamia Muhammadia, terming it a violation of the agreement between government and the seminaries. He added that the move would create misunderstandings between the government and religious groups.
Mufti Naeem, chief of the Jamia Mohammadia, condemned the raid, saying the government tries to bars people from getting religious education. "If the government has any concerns about any Madarasa, the management are ready to cooperate with it Such raid on the religious centres would create further problems", he added.
Meanwhile, talking to a private TV channel, Interior Minister Rehamn Malik said that government is not planning to raid any Madrasa. He added actions are being taken against the foreigners who are performing as Imam of the mosques.
