President International Islamic University, Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui here on Wednesday informed that the university had received no prior threat or warning regarding the attack either verbally or in written from any organisation.
During a press conference at university's library, Dr Siddiqui said, "there was no prior instruction from any governmental organisation regarding a security threat to the university. The university administration, at their own initiative and in light of the prevailing situation in the country had started screening of all vehicles and persons entering the university."
However, the area of the university ranging 704 acres, lacks a boundary wall or the type of security normally seen at security installations, he said, adding that "The University has already submitted a project to the HEC/Federal government to provide necessary funds for the completion of the boundary wall."
Clarifying the rumours of vacating university's hostel, he termed such news as baseless saying, "The university has been closed for few days until October 24th as a mark of respect for those martyred in these attacks and will soon resume classes." He said that the staff and the students of the university are resolute in their courage in the face of this cowardly attack and the acts of terror will not be allowed to defeat the mission of this university.
The Rector Professor Fateh Mohammed Malik, President and the staff of the university expressed their deep sorrow and anguish over these attacks and condolences to the families of those who were martyred in this most shameful attack on this seat of Islamic learning.
Around 20,000 students were studying at the IIU in different disciplines including 1500 overseas students out of which 700 were Chinese, he added. Dr Siddiqui further said that no foreign student left the university or its hostel after the attack and they want to continue their studies at the IIU.
