Punjab Assembly in its fourteenth session here Wednesday appointed Chaudhry Zaheer Uddin as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee-1. In appointment of the chairman, the house earlier saw a number of views from the legislators on the issue. Law Minister Rana Sanaullah dilating his views on the appointment of the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee said that they had fulfilled the promise of Charter of Democracy (CoD).
About the presence of Taliban in Koh-Suleman area, the law minister denied it. Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Zulifqar Ali Khosa averred in the House that out of 103 educational institutions of Lahore 40 were checked on security, which was found undesirable, he pointed.
He said criteria of security in the educational institutions had been set and administration of educational institutions has been told to improve their security in four days. Khosa said that menace of terrorism would be severely dealt with and the country was in a state of war. He said it was awful and shameful that terrorists had started hitting even female students.
Sardar Zulifqar Khosa said that there was danger too to the Punjab Assembly from the terrorist attack and due to burden of its auxiliary roads there was an immense danger. MPA Faiza Malik tabled a resolution in which she stressed for market excess and on-line credit facility for women in cottage and home industry, which was passed on the occasion.
Haider Noor Niazi on a point of order, again as previous day, was not permitted by the chair to speak about Governor Salman Taseer and Altaf Hussain Quaid of MQM. In an adjournment motion by MPA Syed Hassan Murtaza regarding a salinity problem in his area, department was instructed to present a report within a month. An adjournment motion by legislator Samina Khawar Hayat regarding LDA files in Johar Town was disposed off.
In a question on Fort Monoro by legislator Mohsin Laghari, Planning and Development Parliamentary Secretary said that 10,000 trees had been implanted there and due to shortage of water and its being far off place, had depleted its importance. On another question Parliamentary Secretary Finance said that in smaller cities house rent equvalent to 30 percent of basic pay was given to employees. In bigger cities he pointed that this amount was 45 percent.
He said the policy being followed was given by the Federal Government. On a question by a legislator of the provision of cheap justice, it was replied from government quarters that government would soon introduce such a scheme with the aid of Asian Development Bank for which negotiations were underway. The House was later prorogued by the Chair indefinitely.
