Senior Kashmiri Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelani has called for complete shutdown on October 27 and 28 as a mark of protest against the occupation of Indian troops in Kashmir in 1947 and against Indian Prime Minister's proposed visit to the valley, in occupied Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Geelani in a statement said, "By observing strike on these two days, Kashmiris will make it clear to international community that they are still protesting against Indian occupation with vigour and also want to press Indian government through our protest to change its mind set towards Kashmir issue."
"We do not have any personal animosity against Manmohan Singh or Sonia Gandhi but the Indian establishment is unable to understand the sufferings of Kashmiris. Not only have the Indian troops massacred Kashmiris in 1947, 1965 and 1971 but they have subjected them to genocide for the past 30 years in a planned way," he said.
"If they both approach Kashmir problem realistically, they would attain a bigger stature and name in the history books. By conceding to the demand of Kashmiris to demilitarise the region, both the leaders could bring peace and stability in the sub-continent," he added.
The Hurriyat leader also sought apology from the Manmohan Singh for war crimes perpetrated by Indian troops deployed in occupied territory over the past 20 years. He also paid rich tributes to people who were killed in troops firing at Bhijbehra on October 22, 1993 during a protest march against Hazratbal siege.
